Axel, an exceptional boy!

What can we say about our boy Axel? Everyone at the Dogs’ Refuge Home knows him and we are, quite frankly, too used to seeing him around. Sometimes we get so accustomed to seeing a particular dog, especially if there have been no incidents calling that dog to our attention. We then forget to wonder why it’s taken so long to find them the home they deserve, and have been waiting for so patiently!

Axel, an exceptional boy!

That is one possible reason he may have been overlooked. Unfortunately another may be a matter of aesthetics. A pattern often seen in shelters is that dogs with Brindle colouring (such as Axel) miss out on homes. Our trainers have remarked at their surprise that Axel hasn’t found a home as he is quite a social, playful boy. Trainers, staff and volunteers have all had a hand in socialising and working with him. He will do anything for you if offered a tasty training treat! Axel’s arsenal of tricks include sitting, dropping and high fives!

Axel has been on outings with various volunteers and it has been reported that he loves car rides, swimming, and of course, belly rubs. If you’d like him to climb onto your lap, he will obligingly fit as much of himself on there as possible!

An ideal scenario would be for potential adopters to visit Axel a few times to get to know him and establish a bond. Our trainers are available for advice and training sessions to ensure a successful adoption. Axel will be best living with adults as he isn’t too aware of his own size and gets a bit clumsy when happy and excited. He could also possibly live with a dog friend, pending their compatibility upon meeting.

So who’s for Axel? Everyone at the Dogs’ Refuge Home is for Axel, we would like to find that lucky person out there who also has a home for Axel!

Axel, an exceptional boy!  Axel, an exceptional boy!  Axel, an exceptional boy!

  • I would love to hear from the people who adopted Axel. I was so excited to know that he had finally found himself a loving family.
Axel must be beside himself with happiness.

  • I am amazed to hear that Brindles get overlooked, we adopted Brindle Booker (Tonka) last year & I get complete strangers stopping to tell him what a stunning boy he is :) & everyone calls him Tiger, my 2 Staffy's years ago were also Brindle & also showered in compliments whereever we went, I wonder where the predjudice comes from ?

  • I can't belive that this gorgeous dog is still waiting to be adopted.
Please, if anybody out there is thinking about adopting a dog - could you go and check this boy out.

  • We recently adopted a brindle dog named Jack. By the time we took him home he had been at the shelter for 6 months and we were the first people to look at him, this we were told was due to his colouring. I would like to tell any person interested in dog adoption not to disregard a dog because they are not initially the most appealing, as you may find you have uncovered a diamond! Our brindle boy Jack is proof of this. He is affectionate, smart, obedient and we truly feel that we have been blessed with the best dog for us. I hope someone sees Axel and falls in love with him they way we did with
    Jack. You won't regret it!!!
