Batesy is the best friend a girl can have

Adopting Batesy from the shelter almost three years ago was one of the best decisions of my life! Bates has truly been the best friend a girl could have :) He is always there to cuddle me, make me laugh with his ridiculous antics, drag me out of bed for a walk or play, protect me from strange noises in the night.... and even once when I was so sick with food poisoning I fainted, he jumped on me and barked in my ear until I could sit up again.

Although Batesy and his adopted doggy brother Ali aren't related.... they are brothers in every other sense of the word! They will spend hours play-fighting over the bestest and most squeakiest toys before collapsing in a pile of red and white furr. As a backyard puppy Batesy never got to experience growing up as most dogs do... although over the years Ali and I have taught him how to fetch a ball, walk on a lead, how to swim in the scary water! Most importantly though we have taught him how to be loved and be part of a family. He doesnt always get it right.... but regardless he looks after his family with a fierce devotion!

I will never forget the time I brought my new boyfriend home.... oh Batesy wasn't happy! He sat there and just stared at the poor man for ages... and then when we tried to move closer together there was Batesy jumping up in between us barking his head off! Haha... they did become close buddies for a while there... although now the boyfriend is no longer my faithful dog will never leave my side.

I now live in Sydney with my little family of dogs and cats... all 6 of them moved over here with me! I do allot of kitten fostering and Batesy is just so gentle with these tiny, scared balls of furr. One night one of the baby kittens crawled onto Batesy's paw and fell asleep there.... he did not move one muscle for hours, until mumma cat came to fetch her kitten! Even when the same kitten took a fancy to Batesy's most treasured possession, his food bowl.... he retained the same gentle demeanour.

He is my guardian, my angel, my entertainment, my personal trainer, my furry shoulder to cry on.... and most importantly Batesy is my best friend. Thankyou to Shenton Park for saving this dog and giving him the start to a wonderful life! xx
