Big Bert welcomes a new companion at home

For those of your staff and volunteers who remember Bert the Borzoi, a long termer we adopted almost two years ago, here's a quick update.

Bert and Maggie

We've had the pleasure of Bert's companionship for almost two years and we were debating for a while the pros and cons of getting him a companion. He seemed perfectly happy on his own, but we felt we had room for one more dog in our lives and decided to adopt an older female Greyhound called Maggie from GAP. Bert and Maggie settled in very easily together, and are great playmates (it took Bert a while to be prepared to share his toys). When they both get excited and dash around the garden it's time to get out of the way, as an ex-racer she is still really quick, and at 43kg Bert is a very big boy and can also run really fast (and you don't want to be in his way if he misjudges a turn)!

Bert is no longer a picky eater as he knows if he doesn't finish his dinner she will do it for him, as a result he has put on a bit of weight since her arrival three months ago. Bertie is a wonderful affectionate, somewhat goofy big boy, and we still can't believe our luck in chancing upon him.

Bert

Thanks to all the staff for their hard work looking after him for the three years he was in the Home

  • Hi
I am so pleased Burt found a good home. My heart went out to him on many occasions but I had no room in my house with my rescue Borzoi, 2 whippets and a staghound. Thank you

  • I absolutely love big Bert.
He really landed on his four feet when he was adopted by you, and now a new big sister.
    What a beautiful family.
