Boss blossoms into a beautiful dog

I just wanted to let you know that Boss has settled in very well in his new home, with his new “Mum”.

Boss on the couch

He has access to most of the house and has his own little door out to the garden (where he loves to spend a lot of time). He sleeps on the sofas and spends all night sleeping on my bed. And a lot of the day too, I think. When I came home from work the other day he was fast asleep on the bed. Didn’t even notice that I was home for a little while.

We go for walks every morning before I go to work, and then his “pet nanny” comes in the afternoon to take him for a second walk. I think he loves the whole situation.
He is generally very well behaved, but we keep training on some things, such as not being so dependent on his toys. It seems to be working and he no longer needs to constantly walk around with something in his mouth. Or take them with him when he goes out for a pee.

Boss with his toy

He also now comes and wants a cuddle or just a little talk, while to start with he was very brief in his encounters and wouldn’t let you handle him or pat him. It was all about running around with one or possibly two toys in his mouth.

I can now also take the toys out of his mouth when he comes to me. He has learned to come back with the ball when I throw it, and sits and waits for me to throw it again. Although he is twelve, he is a fast learner and loves a challenge.

He loves his walks, and he is so good with other dogs. He either totally ignores them (if they are too noisy or “wild”) or just says hello and then walks on.

He also enjoys watching TV, and on Sunday there some program with pigs, sheep, horses and dogs (and some ads with animated animals, which he loved). He was very interested, in all the animals, but when it came to the dog he got very agitated, and in the end I had to turn the TV off as he started to bark and growl. Tonight was the Bondi Vet, and same thing again. He was watching intensely and when the puppies started to squeal he got so upset, I had to turn the TV off. Not sure how to handle this situation....???? Any advice?

Apart from the TV thingy, he is absolutely wonderful and I love him dearly. Wouldn’t be without him for anything!

If possible, can you please let his previous owner (or the daughter of the previous owner) know that he now has a good home and is much loved and well looked after.

With love and admiration to all of you dedicated people at the Shenton Park Dogs Home.

Have a lovely Christmas and a happy 2011 with lots of success stories!

  • Lovely to hear that Boss has settled in so well with you Barbo. I knew him over here in Shropshire, England and it looks/sounds as if he has not changed. He always slept on his other Mummies bed, watched TV with her, she loved to see him 'talk' to the animals on the screen so think you may to live with that one. He loved to show off his toys to visitors, does not like cats - well liked to chase them and go hunting for rabbits and foxes. He also enjoyed going in the car, always went shopping with her. Enjoy him!

  • We stayed with Boss and his previous owners for a week in August and I loved him. He always carried his toys outside and barked at dogs on the TV but used to snuggle in to me on the sofa. It's very good to know he's settling in well to a new home. Good luck Boss. :¬)
