Gilly was too good to give up

October last year my partner and I adopted Gilly, a ridgeback x mastiff. We have since renamed him Simba, due to the lion look and large paws for a puppy.

I took Simba in for foster care for 2 weeks while he was having his injections done. During this two week period, we noticed that he was very afraid of people, getting Into cars and being left alone for any amounts of time. We did everything we could to gain his trust and confidence. After the two week period was up, my partner and I struggled to return him. On the way back to the shelter we decided that we loved him too much to return him! He was everything to us and made a huge impact on our lives.

We finally adopted him! He is a completely different dog today, he loves jumping up into the car, loves socializing with humans and other animals. He goes everywhere we go. After having so many fears at such a young age, it is amazing to see him so happy and confident.

We are the luckiest people to have a dog that is so loving and cuddly. Even though he takes up the whole bed at the age of 14 months.

Thanks Sam and Brenna.

  • What a fabulous looking dog. It seems that it was a close call for him ... thank goodness you decided to keep him.

  • Inlets of the few times when failure is a bonus-failed foster. Lovely to hear how Simba has developed and settled and of your devotion. Thanks for sharing.
