Haylee has made the best first impression

We took Haylee home yesterday and I just want to let you know how well everything has gone.  We have renamed her Luna and the whole family has fallen madly in love with her.  What a beautiful dog!  And what perfect manners!

As soon as she got in our car she seemed to know we were her new family.  She sat calmly on the back seat and enjoyed Ella scratching her.  When we got home, she spent 10 minutes doing a full survey of the yard, delicately pawing through the garden beds without damaging a thing then she came inside and looked at the sofa, sniffing it, but not jumping up.  Ella patted the sofa and she hopped up onto it and snuggled in.  She has found her favourite spot already.

She sat politely while we ate dinner (without begging) before we fed her.  After dinner Luna and I had a little wrestle outside and she got quite playful shaking her Kong toy and obviously enjoying herself.  Then she spent some short periods outside while we hoped she would go toilet.  She didn't seem to need to, but she didn't whine or pine at the door.  She slept all night in Ella's bed.  I let her outside at 6am and she went off on her own and did a poo in the perfect spot, exactly where I would have told her to if she spoke English.  I saw her at the back door again about 20 minutes later waiting patiently to be let back in, she trotted back to Ella's room and very gently climbed back into bed and snuggled up against Ella without waking her.  I watched with my gob smacked and wondered just who was training who.

When I left for work this morning I saw her with Ella down the dog-exercise area at the bottom of our street, walking to heel and looking up lovingly at Ella.  They are already besties.  My partner Mel also adores her and my other daughter Asha is coming to dinner tonight especially to meet her.  (And I don't mind saying that Luna seems delighted with us too!)

I have known a lot of dogs but Luna has made the BEST first impression I have ever known, no exaggeration.  HUGE thanks to staff member Emilia for suggesting her when we just walked right past her kennel and never would have known the beautiful person in there.  Simply cannot thank you enough.

Thanks again!

  • Update on Luna... We know she feels at home now because she joins in when the neighbourhood dogs are barking at something, and this is something she did not do for the first couple of weeks. She is still settling in, sometimes acts like she's not sure of her place yet, has done a couple of nervous wees inside when she doesn't understand what's happening. I am guessing the changes she has been through have been unsettling for her. But she has a beautiful nature and makes friends everywhere she goes with her perfect manners and gentle touch. We will keep on giving her lots of love and she will grow into us as we grow into her.
