Martha Allen, one of our volunteers, decided running the City to Surf would be an ideal way to get fit and raise funds for our dogs at the same time. When Martha first started her training in January she couldn't run more than 1km without stopping but she was determined to complete the 21km half marathon.

She told us the 18km mark was the toughest part of the run but she willed herself to keep going by thinking of all the toys and chews the money she was raising would buy for our dogs.

Martha received great support from her friends, family and work colleagues and has since organised for her workplace to come to the refuge and help us out with some much needed maintenance. We are extremely grateful to Martha and all her supporters whose donations came to $750 - on behalf of our dogs a huge thank you!
