Chevy

DOB - AUG 2012 | Male | Staffy X Mastiff

Chevy is a favorite of the vollies. He is an absolute smooch with such character. He is looking for an active home to call his own with people willing to put the time and effort into him and make him a part of the family. He loves exploring new places and will follow his nose everywhere! Once he has smelt all there is, he becomes very snuggly and loving. With a bit of commitment, Chevy will make a great addition to most homes. Time and patience training this boy is the key.

MY ENERGY LEVEL + REQUIREMENTS: Chevy needs owners who are home all day long or at least have a good family /friend network who could help as he has terrible separation anxiety. Chevy needs owners who will be able to commit to training him to help him to accept dogs and train him to be home alone so commitment or experience needed for him. Chevy's new home will also need secure 6 foot + fencing

MY SUITABILITY TO CHILDREN: Chevy is best suited to a home without any children.

MY SUITABILITY TO CATS & DOGS: Not suitable with other dogs.

Matte

DOB - AUG 2014 | Male | Staffy X

Matte is a sweet, lovable boy who is looking for his forever home.
Matte would be suited to someone who is at home / works from home mostly, as he loves company. He isn't confident around other dogs but walks beautifully on a lead and would benefit from more socialisation training. This will mean he won't be an off-lead dog in public places like parks & beaches. There are lots of activities he loves including his daily walks, playing tug of war, his kong & other interactive games especially zoomies in the backyard.
Currently Matte is in foster & joins his carer at work most days, he is extremely well behaved & calm, sleeping on his bed for most of the day (with lots of cuddles & treats in between). He behaves best when walked twice daily & also responds well to verbal praise on walks & when in new places. Positive reward based training methods are most effective for Matte.
Matte can be frightened of young children due to anxiety from a troubled earlier life so would need to be in a child free home or in a family with teenagers.

He is intelligent, loyal, calm, loving, playful and just the ultimate companion. He only wants to please and will give you so much in return for the love he needs. He has the basic training (toilet trained of course) but would easily soak up more. He is a clever boy so if his new owners are committed to consistent training for him, he will flourish!

ENERGY REQUIREMENTS: Once settled in he would benefit from two 30-45 minute walks a day as well as plenty of enrichment and playtime so he can be mentally & physically stimulated.

SUITABILITY TO CHILDREN: No young children for Matte, due to his lack of confidence he isn't suited to boisterous or young children.

SUITABILITY TO DOGS AND CATS: Due to his anxiety, Matte needs a dog & cat free home.

Saint

DOB - MAY 2017 | Male | Staffy X

Saint is a well-mannered pooch who is awaiting his right humans to provide him with a loving home.
He loves to be in the company of his people and is most happy soaking up the sunshine and spending quality time with you.
Saint can be a bit unpredictable meeting new dogs, however he walks well and is happy to ignore them from a short distance.
Prefer experienced dog owners for this boy.
He will be a great, loyal companion for the right person/s once settled into his new home.

MY ENERGY LEVEL + REQUIREMENTS: Saint will require approx 1 hour of exercise daily plus mental enrichment at home such as kongs, chew toys and games with his family.

He may suit full time workers once settled into his new home however may need time with his people before being left for long periods.
Saint is a clever boy, relaxed and well mannered with people. He has been quite stressed IN kennel but once out in the yard was quite calm and pleasant.
He appears to know some basic obedience and will focus well for food.

MY SUITABILITY TO CHILDREN: Saint is best suited to teens in the home.

MY SUITABILITY TO CATS & DOGS: Saint may be able to make new dog friends but may be best off with females who are relaxed. Slow introductions are a must!
Saint is not recommended for dog parks, beaches as i would not trust him with certain dogs that may react to his body language badly.

Udo

DOB - APR 2016 | Male | Staffy X Boxer

Udo is a sweet but quite timid boy who may have had a rough past.
He does not trust initially but spending some time with him and enticing him with yummy treats he becomes quite affectionate.
Udo will need experienced dog owners who can guide him using positive / reward based training methods only.
He needs to build confidence and will take time to settle into his new home environment whilst forming a strong bond with his people.
Udo has a big heart and will become a very loyal companion to the right people.

MY ENERGY LEVEL + REQUIREMENTS: Udo will require approximately 1 hour of exercise daily. This is not priority for Udo as he settles in and build confidence - during this time mental enrichment will be very important, kongs, chew toys, games and training with his new owners is a must. Udo lacks a lot of confidence and needs to be guided using positive / reward based training methods only. He does come out of his shell a bit once he trusts you, but if you move too quickly he can become quite unsure and cower.
Udo is food motivated so yummy treats such as cooked chicken will need to be utilised day-to-day with him. Udo must go to part time / stay at home workers, persons who have the time commitment for him as he settles in and builds his confidence in the home..

MY SUITABILITY TO CHILDREN: Udo would struggle with children in the home due to his confidence levels.

MY SUITABILITY TO CATS & DOGS: Udo was good in his dog test however a little unsure. He may lack appropriate skills and his overall confidence needs to be taken into account.
Slow, polite introductions with friendly dogs required as he settles in to his new lifestyle and learns.

Orazio

DOB - OCT 2015  | Female | Staffy X

Orazio is a lively lad who is looking for a new home with active owners. He is keen to learn and has picked up new training skills quickly. He does jump up a lot at the moment so his new owners will need to reward him for keeping all 4 paws on the floor. As he is energetic he may be too much for smaller children but would suit an active household who can give him plenty of exercise. His new owners should have a secure yard with a high fence so he can stay safe when outside. Orazio is strong on the lead and can be excitable so would suit a home with older children or an adult only household.

MY ENERGY LEVEL + REQUIREMENTS: We would recommend that Orazio is not taken to any new places or meets any new people for at least the first 2 weeks whilst he is settling in, this is essential bonding time for him and his new owners. After this time, he can start to have on-lead walks in quite areas only but NO dog parks/dog beaches and NO off-lead time yet. Family members should be introduced slowly and in a calm manner so he learns to remain appropriate and polite.
Once settled in he would benefit from two 30-45 minute walks a day as well as enrichment and playtime so he can be mentally & physically stimulated.

MY SUITABILITY TO CHILDREN: Pending meet...Older children may be more suitable as Orazio is energetic and jumps up a lot so may be too much for smaller children.
The new owners will need to ensure that children are appropriate around Orazio especially whilst he is settling into the new home.

MY SUITABILITY TO CATS & DOGS: Slow introductions to other friendly dogs

Lou

DOB - APR 2015 | Male | Staffy X

Hello, hello!
I'm Lou, and it's a pawleasure to meet you.
I'm a 2-year-old male Staffy X...In fact, I'm almost 3! It will be my birthday in a few months...so, I hope I can find a new home by then so I can celebrate getting a new life and having a birthday all at the same time.
I was returned to the Refuge, but it wasn't my fault. My owner had to have two major shoulder surgeries and it was very hard for me to get the exercise I needed after that.
I'm a strong boy and require about 45 mins of exercise each day. I love to go on walkies and sniff all of my surroundings. I'm a very easy-going dude and quite enjoy meeting other canines and fooling around with them.
I would describe myself as a S.N.A.D - Sensitive New Age Dog. I'm softly spoken, calm, intelligent and super doooooper affectionate.
I used to live with teenagers, and they were my absolute FAVOURITE. They can keep up with me and they were even able to walk me every now-and-then. I would really like some new teenagers...that would be so rad!!!
I also really like to be inside and would be really sad if I was an outside dog. I'd probably cry myself to sleep if I was banished to the backyard at night :-(.
So, I better be off for my WALKIES!
If you can spare some room in your house and your heart for a doggo like me, please come and see me at 30 Lemnos St, Shenton Park.
Love always, Lou

He will make the perfect companion for someone and give back ten fold! His new owners must be completely committed to help change his perceptions and help him feel more confident. No children as all the time and devotion is needed for him. I feel he would be a great project for someone who has the time.

ENERGY LEVEL + REQUIREMENTS: Ian needs owners who are home most of the time.He does have anxiety thus needs owners who understand this and are willing to work with this.

MY SUITABILITY TO CHILDREN: Ian is not suitable for children

MY SUITABILITY TO CATS & DOGS: Due to Ian's anxiety, he will need to be the only dog in the home.

Hooch

DOB - MAY 2013 | Male | Staffy X

Hooch is an energetic boy who is keen to find a loving new home. He has lots of energy to burn and is also keen to learn so would benefit from plenty of play, enrichment and training exercises. His new owners can also have fun investigating the types of toys he likes to play with.

ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS:
We would recommend that Hooch is only taken on neighborhood walks and not taken to any new places or meets any new people for at least the first 2 weeks whilst he is settling in, this is essential bonding time for him and his new owners. After this time, he can start to have on-lead walks in quiet areas only but NO dog parks/dog beaches and NO off-lead time yet. Family members should be introduced slowly and in a calm manner so he learns to remain appropriate and polite.
Once settled in he would benefit from two 30-45 minute walks a day as well as enrichment and playtime so he can be mentally & physically stimulated.

MY SUITABILITY TO CHILDREN: As we have no history of Hooch being around children we would recommend older children or an adult-only home.

MY SUITABILITY TO CATS & DOGS: At present Hooch is quite unsure of other dogs, Hooch may benefit from short calm and structured dog meets with confident and polite dogs so he can learn appropriate behaviours, manners and social skills.

Lacey

DOB - SEP 2016 | Female | Staffy X

Lacey is a beautiful girl whom is an absolute delight to be around. She was loved very much but unfortunately Lacey needs owners who are around most of the time and this is crucial to her building her confidence. She enjoys her cuddles and does love dogs once she has met them. She is eager to please!

ADOPTION RECOMMENDATIONS: Lacey needs owners who are home most of the time as we do know from previous owners that she does struggle when left alone. Another dog maybe the answer as long as it is a great match. :) Fit retired people could work as long as they are able to meet her physical needs, or people who have a good support network.

MY SUITABILITY TO CHILDREN: Older teens are best suited to Lacey

MY SUITABILITY TO CATS & DOGS: It seems lacey is quiet excited when she see's other dogs so has to be introduced correctly and calmly.

Todd loves to play games - chasing the tennis ball, throwing the rope toy around to himself but tug of war seems to be his favourite.
He has good basic manners and is nice to walk on the lead.
Todd will need time to settle into his new home and should be exposed to new places & other dog slowly after he has bonded with his new people.

MY ENERGY LEVEL + REQUIREMENTS: Todd will require approx 1 hour of exercise daily. He loves to play with his toys - tennis & soccer balls, rope toys etc. Tug of war is his favourite.
He may suit full time workers once settled into his new home however he will need to be left in a very secure environment.
Todd can be a bit shy initially, once he gets to know you he is very affectionate, polite and knows good basic obedience with focus on food.

MY SUITABILITY TO CHILDREN: Todd may be ok with children 10+ in the home pending meet.
He would need his own space especially as he settles in and gets to know his new family.

MY SUITABILITY TO CATS & DOGS: He will need a few weeks to settle into his new home, walking in quiet areas away from other dogs before meeting new dogs. This will then need to be done slowly in a controlled manner.

Gerald would be the perfect candidate for rural or semi-rural living, in a nice quiet area.

Aria

DOB - DEC 2015 | Female | American Staffy X

Hey there,
I'm Aria!
I'm 2-years-old and I'm a female American Staffy X.
I absolutely love the company of humans and will be forever grateful for a home where there is someone home with me as much as possible. I just want to spend my days lazing around with someone special...
I'm very loving and really can't wait to find the right home for me. It's been a pretty tough year for me, but I'm here and ready to accept change and embrace my new life...hopefully very soon!
I love toys to chew! It's my fave thing. I really hope my new humans will get me lots and lots of toys. I like the ones with treats in them, where I have to use my brain to get it out.
To be honest, I'm not great with other dogs, but the trainers said that with professional help, I may be able to gain some confidence around other dogs in the future, but this must be done slowly and at my own pace.
I'd like to find a home where I have a consistent routine, this makes me feel secure and safe. I love to wake up and know how my day is going to roll.
I also don't really want to be homed with kids, I need my humans to put their time and effort into me, please.
I hope someone can give me a home soon.
If you'd like to know more, please call my friends at the Refuge on 9381 8166.
Love, Aria
x

Dorothy

I am quite an affectionate and loving girl who is keen for a home of my own and a family that will include me and permit me inside with them. I will need some training as I am still young and a bit silly but in general I am pretty easy going.

MY SUITABILITY TO CHILDREN: Older dog-savvy kids.

MY SUITABILITY TO CATS & DOGS: Dorothy tolerates other dogs, but she prefers to avoid dogs if she can, so we feel it's best that she is the only dog in the household.

Steph

DOB - NOV 2016 | Female | Staffy X

Steph is an intelligent but shy girl who needs owners that can commit to her ongoing training needs. She is a very smart cool young girl who will, in time, make a fantastic companion for the right people. She is likely to do best in a quiet home as an only pet.

MY SUITABILITY TO CATS & DOGS: Steph has lived with another dog previously, but was returned as the relationship between Steph and her canine ‘sibling' turned sour. Steph is best suited to a dog-free home.

Rocky

DOB - JAN 2016 | Male | Staffy X Kelpie

Testing one, two- is this thing on!?
Hey, I'm Rocky.
I'm a Staffy X Kelpie with little corgi-like legs and I'm 2-and-a-half-years-old.
I'm a very clever boy, but I need some people who are going to help me build up my confidence by using my brain. Training and mental enrichment are going to be key to my growth and development.
I love my toys. I just love being in the yard frolicking around with a ball or a rope toy. I can't wait to find hoomans who I can play with. Don't worry, I'll teach you how to play with my toys...it's easy!
When I was just a wee little whipper-snapper, I used to be okay with other dogs, but it seems that this shelter life isn't really helping me gain much confidence around other pooches. I think I'll just need a bit of time to calm down and get used to my new environment before I'm introduced to other canine friends. I should also mention that it's going to be best to get a trainer to help re-introduce me to pooches.
I'm not really wanting a home with children, although older teens may be right up my alley. The older teens can actually help with my training and it's a great way for us to bond and become besties. Little kids are just too much for me to deal with, unfortunately.
Well, I'm SO ready to be someones life-long companion, so please don't delay. Come and see me at 30 Lemnos St, Shenton Park.
Love chuuu!
Rocky

Charlie will require approx 2 x 30 minute walks daily to help shed some kilos. He will need someone who can do training with him as he does have basic manners but can definitely learn more.

MY SUITABILITY TO CHILDREN: Charlie Brown is best suited to older dog-savvy kids

MY SUITABILITY TO CATS & DOGS: Charlie appears to be choosy with his doggie friends. He is best suited to a home where he will be only dog and should not be forced to interact with other dogs.

Amber

DOB - SEP 2008 | Female | Staffy X

Hallo! I'm Amber. This is all very new to me and I feel a bit uncomfortable with this Bookface thing, the camera thing and the refuge thing! It's all a bit much for a lady approaching her mid-life!
At 7 years I didn't really expect to be homeless, but so many things changed in my household. Over the last few years it's been a bit stressful, well for me at least. I've been house bound and barely had any exercise. Well, when I say house bound I mean the backyard, actually. I've been away from my hoomans. I think it's because I was so boisterous around the new baby, who is now toddling, but I was just so excited to see everyone.
So it's time for second chances and I want to make mine count! Please come and adopt me only if you have time for me, will take me for a nice walk most days, will let me be inside with you and will spoil me, just a little bit would be lovely.
I've had some experience with other dogs, big and small. I'm okay when they're okay. I'm not sure sometimes whether to back off, bark or play, but it's been awhile since I went to the park so you'll have to cut me some slack until we work it all out.
I really, truly love people. I'll be fine with kiddos, maybe a bit bigger than toddlers until I can contain my excitement. I've never seen a cat that anyone can remember, just sayin' cos I've got no idea what I'll do!
If I do say so myself, I am a real sweetie. I can't wait to find out who will come and want me, I hope they are nice like me and will give me lots of love and affection (which I plan to give them too)!
Oh dear, please don't let the weather put you off. We're open and there's so many dogs like me hoping to get out of our kennels and into our new homes.
Kisses and slobbers
Amber xoxoxo

Harlem

DOB - JUL 2015 | Male | Kelpie X Staffy

Heya hooman friends,
I'm Harlem and I'm a 2-year-old male Kelpie X Staffy, ready to find my forever home.
I'm currently in foster care and I'm living with another doggy friend named Lilo. Lilo is a Rottweiler and we've become close friends, but Lilo already has a forever home with my foster carers, so I need to find one for myself too.
I'm quite shy when I first meet people, but as soon as I feel comfortable I'll be right up in your grill wanting cuddles and pats. You'll find me mostly nudging you to prompt you to give me loves!
Since being in foster care I have discovered that couches are the best thing man has ever created. I loves them so much! I call them the 'dream machines' because they're so comfortable, I drift off into a deep sleep and dream about parks with endless dog toys and water fountains filled with treats instead of water. Speaking of water, my foster carers take me to the beach every now and then, but I'm kinda scared of the water! It sucks you in and I don't really like that!
I've been around cats and I'm always polite around them. I don't really understand them, but we respect each others space. I actually find them pretty funny...they make the strangest noises and always try to impawsonate the hoomans cell phones by vibrating...I think they call it 'purring'.
My foster hoomans have given me a SNUFFLE MAT and it is the best thing ever (after couches of course!). If you don't know what a snuffle mat is, you need to get onto it ASAP. You hide your foods in it and then it's like some magical puzzle you have to solve to get the treats out. It keeps me calm and happy when my foster hoomans have to go out.
Speaking of hoomans going out, I don't really like being home by myself for a long time :-(. I have sepawration anxiety and sometimes try to get out if you leave me outside - so being inside is the best option for me if you do have to go out for a little bit...actually one thing that has helped with this is my friend Lilo, so I hope I can live with another doggy friend so I have some company.
I'm quite a social boy, but some dogs are just plain rude and I don't like that! I will tell them off if they get up in my face and don't show me their manners. I have no tolerance for rude doggo's. My foster hoomans have taught me to be polite and gentle and I expect other dogs to be the same, please!
I'm not sure if a home with kids would be great for me...like I said, I'm kinda shy initially and usually what makes me feel at ease is the calmness of adults, but I know kids have a lot more energy and can be quite loud and unpredictable at times, so I'm not sure I want to live with them.
Anyway, if I sound like I'd be the pawfect fit for your lifestyle, please call my buddies at the Refuge on 9381 8166.
Peace and Love,
Harlem x

DOB - JUN 2012 | Female | Staffy X

Oh my goodness, hello there!
I'm Jess and I'm a 6-year-old lovely lady of the Staffy variety.
Aren't I just a cutie-patootie? Well, that's what everyone else calls me, but I have no idea what it means!
I'm like the sunshine, warm and glistening. I always try to light up any room I'm in with my dazzling smile and my warm and affectionate nature.
I love humans very much! They make me so happy...I really don't know what it is about you humans but you make my tail wag uncontrollably and I get so excited to greet you. I love it when humans give me belly rubs or pet me or show me any affection.
I'm a very good girl, but I could use just a smidgen more training. Nothing too drastic at all...I'm actually a really easy-going pooch.
I'm a little bit choosy with some dogs. I actually just prefer my own company rather than other dogs'. I'm not terrible with other dogs though...some dogs I actually quite like, but it's not many, so dog parks and beaches aren't suited to me.
I think I'd prefer to live in a home with older kids - teens would be best. I'm not completely against kids though - let's meet and see if we like each other :-).
Ok, well please get your butt into the Refuge and come and say Hi.
I'll be patiently waiting in my kennel for you!
30 Lemnos St, Shenton Park!
Love you!
Jess xo
