Missy's looking for someone to help turn her life around

Kelpie cross Missy is only 10 months old but already she has had a tough start in life.  Her owners took her to the vets to be put down because they didn't want her any more.  Fortunately for Missy, the vet nurse working at the practice rescued her and, as a consequence, this gorgeous girl ended up at the Dogs' Refuge Home.

Unfortunately for Missy the kennel environment was all a bit too much and she became extremely stressed.  Then she got gastro and ended up at the vet hospital on a drip because she had become so dehydrated and her weight had dropped dangerously low.

Ironically, this is where things got better for Missy as Refuge staff knew that she needed to leave the kennel environment urgently, and that's where one of the Home's regular foster owners stepped in to temporarily look after.

Missy is now gaining weight by the day - and according to her foster owner she is the most gorgeous girl who will be an incredibly loyal and affectionate companion when she eventually finds her new owners.

"Missy has had such a rough start in life and yet she is such a gentle dog who has a very sweet nature, good manners and is very intelligent," says her temporary owner.

"She is house trained, walks well on the lead, sits, and also lies down on command and given her breed with keep her new owners extremely fit, as she'll need two good walks a day.

"Missy loves other dogs, children and people and she is the sweetest looking dog, with the biggest ears ever.  She is just gorgeous, and in fact her only fault is that she hates cats!!"

Is there anybody out there to give Missy a wonderful home for life - this little girl really deserves a second chance at happiness - could that be with you and your family?

  • No worries, we will always be grateful for what you did - we can't imagine life without Misty!

She's come such a long way, when I look at the pictures in the article its hard to believe that's her.

Trust me when I say she is being very spoilt, but she is still so disciplined and well mannered - and incredibly affectionate!

Thanks again for what you did :)

  • Thanks so much for the update, I saved Missy from Euthanasia. I am a vet nurse, unfortunately for me she didnt fit in with my brood (not a cat fan) so I very sadly took her to Shenton Park in the hope that someone would give her the chance she needed as she was so so affectionate and loving. You have made my day just knowing she is being loved and spoilt by her own family now x

  • MIsty (or Missy, as she was known whilst at the shelter) has settled in wonderfully in her new home. She is very active and loves playing with her toys and is easily the most spoilt member of our family!

Having said that, she is well behaved - she plays fetch and shakes hands on command and loves being outdoors.

She has put on weight and is now very healthy. She is so friendly and loves cuddles. We are very happy with Misty and will recommend the shelter as a first stop for people looking to get a dog!
