My first foster dog, Jake

Having Jake in my life as my first foster dog was an amazing experience in many ways.

Jake

Firstly, it enabled me to have the pleasure of having a dog in my life when I knew I could not look after of a dog for life due to my travel commitments. Also, it forced me to exercise twice a day (something I always plan to but never normally get around to it!).

Through fostering, I met new friends at the park who have stayed good friends and now Jake has his forever home I get to walk their dogs for them!

Importantly for Jake, it gave me the chance to see how he behaved in a home environment which was so different from the behavior he was exhibiting in the kennel - this had probably stopped him from being adopted in the past

Jake stayed with me for 2 months and each time went we went for a walk he would wear his ‘adopt me’ jacket which made him the talking point of the park - every person we passed stopped to ask me about his jacket and that ultimately led to him finding his forever home. Of course, the day of the adoption is bitter/sweet, I was so happy for Jake but shed a tear for myself.

To my delight, a couple of months later I saw Jake and his new Dad and it was obvious they adore each other. My heart just swelled with pride knowing that my act of fostering Jake had given him this chance to lead a happy life in his new home FOREVER…….. and of course Jake's space in the shelter becomes available for the next dog to have a chance to find the home he deserves too.

But I think the best part of fostering had to be that I could get amazing doggy cuddles whenever I wanted!!

  • Lorraine you have no idea how grateful we all are that you took Jake on foster.
Cannot thank you enough for taking him into your home and spoiling him so much - and to help him find his forever home is the icing on the cake. You deserve a medal! Thank you again.
