On a rainy and windy Saturday at the end of June, James Pregnell from BHP Billiton Iron ore completed our doggie marathon and in the process helped to raise over $50,000 for our refuge, which will be matched by his employer.
Do you still remember me? I am Kel, I thought I'd give you an up-date. I am in the process of training my new owners, however many compromises have to be made. They didn't like me checking the good smelling pots on the stove and would not share their very comfortable lounge - instead I have my own basket next to the lounge (which isn't too bad).
It's so sad to see so many older dogs ending up at the home. Recently we've taken in a record number of mature dogs that are clearly bewildered as to why they are with us - and to be honest so are we. Surely they deserve to be spoilt at this time of their life and whilst we do our best to make them feel as comfortable as possible in their new surrounds they really do deserve to be in a loving home.
On August 14 we will be holding our annual Street Appeal and we desperately need volunteers to shake tins in the city and suburbs. If you can spare a few hours on that day to shake a tin in your area – or even take one to your workplace – our dogs will be very grateful.
Koko has been with us for about a month now and she has certainly made herself at home! Even on the first night there was no anxiety, she just settled right in. We were a little hesitant at getting a 'middle aged' dog (she is 7yrs) but she is just beautiful.
Last June Kelli Knowles from BHP Billiton Iron Ore and her support team walked 30 dogs over a marathon 30 kilometres and raised an amazing $37, 000 for the refuge which was then matched dollar for dollar by her employer. This year Kelli has handed the baton over to her colleague, the hugely enthusiastic James Pregnell.
Hello Everyone, my name is Pumpkin, I am a 4 year old Tenterfield Terrier who found a home with my new mum, dad and 2 human brothers in July of 2008. I have to say I am spoilt rotten and now rule the roost at my new home. Nanna C donated a humungous pet basket for me to sleep in and Nanna E donated a pet futon to go in the basket, so my bed which lives in mum and dad's room is super cosy.
Hi! My name is Julian and I lived in the Shenton park dogs home for around 3 months. I waited in my kennel for a long time until a nice looking, nice smelling family came and picked me up. It was a bit of a hassle but as soon as I knew it I was in the car hanging my wet nose out the window!
I have the most beautiful dog. Thank you so much to the staff at the Dogs' Refuge Home! I set out looking for a companion and I now have, after nearly a year, the most beautiful dog!
Hello Everyone. My Mum said it was time I sent you a note to tell you how I have been getting on since I left you all at the beginning of September...especially after what I did TODAY, she said.
