Penny has proven to be the perfect companion

We wanted to get in touch to let you know how Penny (Dog Number 387) has settled into our family. We adopted Penny in mid-October last year, and she has proven to be the perfect dog for us. She is a terrific companion, and loves to follow us around the house and yard and see what is happening.

Penny

Our existing cat and Penny have accepted each other's presence without any problems, and Penny has never shown any aggression towards the cat (she showed no interested in the cat when introduced at the Dog's Refuge Home). Penny loves our two kids (aged 8 and 9), and has never done anything more than growl at our 8-year old if he occasionally becomes over-excited. She loves meeting people, and we have largely managed to get her to stop jumping on people when first meeting them.

We excercise her off the leash every afternoon at our local park where she has a number of dog friends that she regularly plays with. She has never been aggressive towards any dog, instead being very submissive and wanting to lick everybody's "chops". She is very popular with all the other dog parents down at the park because of her friendly and non-aggressive nature. It took us only a few weeks to gradually introduce her to being off the leash, and she will most times readily respond to voice commands to return if she starts to wander off. About 4 pm every day she starts to become restless and look for signs that we are about to take her for her walk.

Penny

Penny sleeps in our main bedroom, and is house trained. At night she comes to our bed and whinges to be let out for a wee or a drink, and then comes back in and settles back on her bed. She had only a couple of accidents in the first week, but other than that she has been faultless. We have learnt not to leave anything out in the back yard that can be chewed, particularly things made of plastic!

In short, Penny is a happy and healthy dog, and we couldn't have made a better choice. We have attached a few photos of Penny with our cat, playing frisbee with a friend at the park, on our bed (copying the cat), and two with the kids.

All the best, Steve and Lynn
