Our very own expert dog trainer Tracey Lord knows all too well a dog with a troubled past can improve in leaps and bounds if given a second chance at a happy life.

Mojo in action

Today quite literally jumping for joy, four-year-old Australian Silky Terrier cross Mojo wasn’t always so happy, having been rescued by the Dogs’ Refuge Home in Shenton Park after being terribly abused by owners whose children were allowed to use him as a living football.

Fearful of people and other dogs and with little confidence, Mojo could have been labeled a lost cause if our dog trainer Tracey hadn’t seen his hidden potential.

Qualified as a Delta Certificate 4 Trainer and with a lifetime of canine experience, Tracey enrolled Mojo into obedience school and then agility training, where within a year he achieved the titles of Jumping Dog Excellent and Agility Dog, and was awarded Top Jumping and Agility Dog at Northern Suburbs Training and Obedience Dog Club.

“Mojo was understandably petrified of just about everything given how badly he'd been treated, and it was proving really difficult to re-home him, so I decided to adopt him,” says Tracey.

“Agility training has improved Mojo’s confidence immensely and his story is proof that, with the investment of time and appropriate training, any dog who has had a bad start in life can really flourish.”

Mojo will be competing in The Western Classic this weekend against hundreds of other dogs and Tracey has high hopes her rescue dog with the difficult past will jump for gold.
