Rusty Dusty is on cloud nine

Hi, my name is Rusty Dusty Spooner-Lancaster!  but I only get called that when I’ve done something I shouldn’t have….. that’s not very often, really…..I originally came home cos mum Nat volunteers at the refuge and I wasn’t well and ‘needed a break’.

Rusty Dusty
After that she wanted me to come and stay sometimes cos Steve dad is a BIG red cloud fan and she wanted to bring more dogs home for sleepovers and thought he’d be ok with that if he got his red cloud fix.  That was the plan anyway…..  then they both fell in love with me (who wouldn’t!) and since I’m a real lounge lizard for a kelpie, I suit them just fine!  Mum Nat takes me for a walk every morning before work, and Steve dad takes me after work.

Life is ROOLY good.  I have a bed next to theirs and am allowed on their bed for a cuddle for weekend sleep ins, and I’m allowed on the lounge on my blankie (but not with my toys, cos I throw squeak around in the air, and even tho they think it’s funny and laugh, I’m not allowed to do that on the couch anymore… not since that incident with the manky squeak toy in the drink….) plus I have a bed in the bay window and a bed outside.  We go camping, and I run around free (cos I always stay close by).  Mum Nat says since I’ve discovered balls and sticks, I’m a bit feral for them,  so I’m not allowed to play with them all the time now….  Bummer…..  now we do training at Carine, and that’s fun, and lots of people say how beautiful I am. Mum Nat says I know it too…..  she says if we pass enough classes we might do agility next year cos apparently I’ve got springs in my legs…..

On top of all that fabo stuff I STILL get to have play dates with my best mate Ivan, from the refuge.  He got adopted just before I did. We chase each other around and do body slams, we can go for hours and it’s excellent fun!  No other dog plays like Ivan does….  But I like my new friends Sheba, Geordie, Belvedere, Lil, Gypsy… and all the other dogs at the park and oval.

Thanks to everyone at the refuge who looked after me while I stayed, and thanks for letting me go live with mum Nat and Steve dad.  I’m really happy with them and my new bro Cam.  He comes and stays with us some weekends and school holidays and is lots of fun.  He taught me how to bark whenever I see something new!  Mum Nat’s not so happy with that tho…..

Here are some photos of my new life!

  • Beautiful story Nat!Rusty was my favorite at Shenton and we tried to foster with the hope of adoption but my boy Arnold was a bit jealous at the dog meet. But after reading your story he is so very happy and obviously loved and in his element with you and Steve. He deserves a great home and is giving back unconditionally no doubt.Big hug to Rusty.Andrea.

  • YAY go Rusty!! I love hearing about his exploits, and sounds like he is loving his new family. I just remember this beautiful gentle boy (he was obviously unwell!!) playing with Ivan.
I can\'t wait until we can get our dog from the refuge!

  • That's great news about Rusty. I remember him well and his play mate Ivan. He is a lucky dog to have such a wonderful home.
