Santo adopts his new pack

Way back in January 2011, you showed an unplaced family of humans through the Dog’s Home.  They had not long before lost their Alpha Dog, and were hoping a new leader would come along and take them under his paw.

Santo walking his pack

I decided to give them a go, but after a couple of previous false starts taking on some other humans, I was wary of letting them commit to me too early. Now, it seems my concerns were unwarranted.

The kennel I share with them is near a lake and park, which is good as they need to be exercised, so I do not have to take them far.  Sometimes they need some encouragement, so I use some of their things to get them to run. I have attached a photo of this so the other dogs can see how easy it is. They behave quite well, so when I take them for a drive, I let them sit up front while I keep an eye on them from the back.

Santo teaching to throw ball

I have had to teach them to throw a ball, and they are now getting quite good at it although at the start, the ball sometimes ended up on the woof. Sometimes I have to get them to practice for quite a while until I think they have earned a rest.  This picture is me teaching the human pups to keep their eye on the ball. All of this work trying to keep the humans fit sure is tiring though, so luckily I have a couple of nice soft beds to retire to, one inside and one outside our kennel.

Humans are a funny breed, must be a bit of mongrel in them.  Some days, I just can’t help myself, roll onto my back and crack up laughing. Howlarious! Check out my tonsils!

So, I am now satisfied the humans are OK, and have decided to adopt them. Anyone who comes to the kennel who I don’t trust now feels the wrath of my bark.  This isn’t something I have done much of in the past, but I think these humans are worth protecting.

Maybe a little more massage though.  I’ll have to work on that..........

Love to all
