Sophie's tale

Hello everyone - this is Sophie here, and I've got a tale to tell you. You might not remember me, but I remember you. In my former life my name was Hope and I was a helter-skelter. Then my life took a turn for the better when I found myself in your shelter.

You looked after me and did your best so I didn't feel alone. Then along came Brian and Kirsten who wanted tot ake me home. I was a little bit scared for a while, til they bought Zac to come visit me. Boy we got on liek a house on fire, there was no going back that I could see.

When we all got home to my new house, I had a lot of exploring to do. Zac showed me around and pointed out the only place a could do a poo. Then there were new family members to meet and that was Bianca and Kate. Now my life is so much better, I don't need to stare through a gate.

When Zac showed me where I could sleep, I thought "could this really be?". A lovely bean bag for day use and a night bed to: the height of luxury. I'm really getting looked after - do I really deserve it all? I decided from them that I would make them proud and always try and stand tall.

With this family I'm never bored, everything's full-on. They tell me it's been just over a year, I don't know where the time has gone. They don't very often leave me at home, they know I like to go. When Zac and I beg with our soulful eyes, they really can't say no.

They even take us camping or let us swim in the pool. That's when I can really cut loose and run around like a fool. I've been on lots of trips with them, I love my family. Out of all the dogs they could have chosen, I'm so glad that they picked me.

Of course I've had the usual things like needle jabs and such. But I can handle it, cause I'm a big girl now and it really doens't hurt - much! My family loves me and they wouldn't hurt me unnecessarily. 'Cause they tell me how good I am, boy it's good to be me.

When Brian's home he makes a fuss and let's us break the rules. Instead of having to behave ourselves we get away acting like fools. But when Kirsten's here, and Bianca and Kate, they put a stop to that and Brian gets in trouble like us and we all get sent to the mat.

My doggy friends are at the park when I go every day. Kirsten takes me for a walk so I can go and play. Zac just looks on when I play with my friends Bruce, Milly and Holly. He's not interested in playing with any of them, not even little Molly.

My very bestest friend though is Bear who tells me he's a Great Dane. No one else plays with him, he's so big that no one else is game. He scares them all, except Molly and when they see him they hide behind a tree. But he's really a very gentle guy and certainly doesn't scare me.

You'll be pleased to know I got to Doggy School and I've been just so clever. I've got one certificate so far - Basic Training's the easiest ever. Now I'm going for Intermediate and that's a bit harder I'm told. But because I'm such a clever girl that I'm sure I'll breeze through with a gold.

My life's ever so good now, my former life I wouldn't touch. I wanted you to know everthing, there's just been ever so much. When I think back to what I had before, which wasn't much I know - I would think to myself "I have to get out of here, I really have to go".

So I'm happy now and I thought I should tell you as I don't want you to be sad. My family's the best thing ever and that should make you glad. Even though I really liked you guys, I was only ever your guest. But I love to bits my new family now, they really are the best.

So thanks for looking after me when I was a little kid. I don't know what I would've done if you hadn't come along when you did. My wish would be for your other 'guests' to ge the same chance as me. Cause it's really good to be happy and loved by a caring family.

Love Sophie

(formerly Hope)

  • Hi Sophie

You really have the life now. What a fabulous loving family you have been adopted into, you are so very spoiled and so unconditionally loved.
I hope, like you Sophie, that your friends back at the refuge don't have to wait much longer for their chance of a loving family like you have.
    Paws crossed!
