Summer finds her pawfect match

I came in last weekend and adopted Summer. Her name is now Billie. She has taken to her new name very well, I use it with her a lot and she is adjusting to it well. The name Summer wasn’t working for me and with her being a bit of a tom boy, I thought Billie suited her. If any of you watch Offspring, there is a character on there called Billie and I think they are both a bit crazy so it seemed to suit. I just love her to pieces.

adoption success

When I took Billie home she slept the whole way. When she got into the back yard she jumped over the barrier and went straight into the fish pond, out the other side and instantly started terrorising the birds in the Aviary!!! After I managed to get her to calm down she proceeded to destroy 3 tennis balls in quick succession, the little video attached is when she came inside for the first time, she was like a maniac at first but as you can see she is very happy.

The photo attached is after her first walk, she decided that having a drink wasn’t enough, she needed to get in the water bowl and at one point was all curled up in there like a baby deer!!

Yesterday was my first day back at work after the long weekend, we are building our routine which she seems to know as well as I do. We go for a good walk before I go to work, then she has breakfast. She has to watch me get ready for work and then she goes outside with her Kong toy which has some treats in it. During the day she can please herself if she wants to go in or out through the dog door. When I first brought her home she knew what the dog door was straight away and is more than happy to use it. Hasn’t been to the toilet in the house once. I wondered if I was going to come home to destruction yesterday but there was not a thing out of place. She is just so good.

I’d like to say what a pleasure it was to work with Jane in finding the right dog for me, Jane has brilliant intuition and was just a lovely person.

I have enrolled Billie in Billy’s day care today and I am waiting for them to get back to me, don’t want to rush it, just get it organised. I think it will be good for her. We so need to do some training, the way in which she expresses love can be a bit boisterous to say the least! When she is excited she bites me a lot and she can be a bit rough. There is also no keeping her away when I eat my dinner, I need some help with this but we will work everything out.

Thank you to you all for all of the effort you put in, I don’t know where all those dogs would be without people like you to love and care for them. I think you all do a brilliant job.

Best wishes

  • Love Billie's story. Our Sheba loves water and did the same. We had a wheelbarrow full of water and she'd leap into it after play to cool her feet or just dig in it and then sit. We have since bought her a paddling pool, one of those blue shells and she loves it because she can lie fully in the water.
After a long walk I take her outside to paddle otherwise she paddles in her kitchen waterbowl and it's all awash!
The fish pond also has been "dug" into and the pond plants disposed of. We often find the little stones from the bottom of said pond in the yard.
We love her to bits and we've just had her 6 weeks. Enjoy Billie. Great story.
