Training Classes

Puppy Pre-school

There are many benefits to teaching your puppy to be well behaved at an early age. Young puppies are quite able to learn obedience skills, toileting behaviour and social boundaries. All of these things help make your relationship with your dog more rewarding for the years to come.

With our progressive and positive learning techniques you will:

  • Develop an understanding of normal puppy behaviour.
  • Learn how to read your puppy's body language and respond appropriately.
  • Develop effective techniques for positive behavioural development.
  • Learn important tips about walking in public areas.
  • Understand the need for socialising your puppy.
  • Teach your puppy some important 'do not' lessons
  • Understand important boundaries when playing together.
  • Develop strong bonds between you and your puppy

The most important thing about Puppy Pre-school is 'start early'. Waiting too long can allow behaviour problems to establish which then require more intensive training to overcome.

What to bring with you to our puppy classes:

  • Up to date vaccination card - it is required that your pup has had their first vaccination at least
  • flat collar and lead (no retractable leeds or chain leads please)
  • Lots of yummy soft treats

Classes usually run on Thursday evenings between 6-7pm for 4 weeks at the Home. It us $100 for the whole course and it is to be paid at or before your first class. Please arrive a few minutes early to get your pup settled and all members of the family are welcome to attend.

To book in please call our trainer Eimear on 0479 086 151 about enrolling your puppy in our Puppy Pre-school classes.

Next class commences: Thursday 13th October 2016

These classes focus on changing the dog's association towards other dog/dogs in the controlled environment of the class thus developing the capacity for the reactive dog to be able to interact around other dogs without barking and lunging on lead. It covers strategies and management to help with this including: Curving, body language, how to do polite meets and greets, 'find its', 'look at thats','watch, parallel walking, meets in the parallel yard with a calm dog, calm dog coming into class and more. It all depends on how the dogs and owners are coping and learning. Barriers are erected during the class for safety.

Desensitization to Friendly Strangers

This is similar to Working with Reactive Dogs but changing the dog's association to people rather than dogs. Ideal for dogs who are fearful of strangers. If you dog is reactive to other dogs then Working With Reactive Dog classes are recommended as a first step.
