Although our dedicated kennel staff care for our dogs on a day to day basis, we rely on our incredibly valuable volunteers to ensure our four legged friends are walked and exercised daily.
To assist in providing our dogs with a consistent level of basic training, and to teach newcomers how to correctly walk our dogs, all of our volunteers first undergo a standard induction procedure. This training is continually reinforced and is vitally important because it increases the chances of each dog in our care being adopted.
The task of helping animals is not always an easy one, but it is an incredibly rewarding experience. As a volunteer you will be working towards giving our four legged friends a better life and a new home.
There are a number ways you can help:
Dog walking
Put a smile on a dog's face by taking them for walks around our grounds or throwing a ball for them in our large exercise yards. We also welcome our volunteers helping in the socialisation of our younger dogs (especially our puppies). And pats and cuddles are welcome too!
Gardening
Help is always needed to keep our grounds looking their best.
Handicrafts
We are always looking for people to help mend dog coats (especially in the winter time!).
PR / Marketing / Fundraising
We are continuously looking for new ideas in which to raise funds and promote the Home. We have a fundraising committee who meet on a regular basis and new volunteers are always welcome.
Maintenance
If you are a qualified tradesperson your skills would be invaluable in maintaining our aging premises and we would be incredibly appreciative of your help and support.
If you can spare a few hours a week, you have the ability to make a huge difference to the Home and the dogs in our care. We require that you be over 18 and be prepared to offer a regular commitment – even if it's just a couple of hours per week.

If you are interested in dog walking, you will need to first attend a shadowing session with one of our experienced volunteers. This will take approximately 1 hour and will give you an idea of what is involved. The days we run shadowing are Monday, Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday (not public holidays) between 10.30am and 3pm. Please call the office first to ensure a senior volunteer is available.
Once you have completed the shadowing you will be booked into our next available induction training course which runs every second Saturday starting at 9am and finishing around 11.30.

We look forward to meeting you and welcoming you to our team!
