Xavy Baby is home at last

Two weeks ago, Damian and I met Xavier (Xavy Baby) for the first time. When we saw him, he immediately walked right up to the fence and sat down for a scratch. I don’t know if it was his big brown eyes staring into our soul but we knew he was the boy for us. After learning about how long he had been at Shenton Park for and how stressed he was in the current situation, it no longer became the case of “we want a dog” but more so “he wants and needs us”.

We knew that whatever dog we would get from Shenton would require a love of love and perhaps some ‘work’ but we didn’t realise that meeting Xavier would make it just that much easier. We made the decision to foster him for two weeks to let him settle in and get to know us, which we believe was a fantastic way of being introduced. However, after the first night we knew there was no going back.

As of yesterday (2nd Feb 2014) Damian and I officially became parents to Xavier and the three of us couldn’t be happier. He is one of the smartest most loving dogs I have ever met and we can’t help think that the reason he was at Shenton for so long was because he was waiting for us. We’re only sorry we didn’t get to meet Xavier sooner.

The picture to the right was taken last night. He hasn’t slept this much in the last few weeks, always leaving one eye slightly open. I couldn’t help but think that he knew he was now in his forever home.

We’ll send updates along the way as I know there were so many trainers and volunteers who invested so much time into him. Thank you so much for all the work you do as we really can’t imagine not having Xavier in our life now and that’s all thanks to everyone at Shenton.

Good luck to all the other dogs currently in Shenton, we home you find a forever home soon!

Many Thanks,

Jessica and Damian

  • What a lovely family. Xavier seems to be soaking up Jessica's kisses and looks so comfortable with Damian. They were MADE to be together. If Xavy Baby ever gets his own page on FB, I'd love him to be my friend.

  • Oh, well done! Congrats to you all! I met Xavier and visited with him a dozen times at least and knew he was special from the first moment I saw him. So glad you all have found each other!
