Puppy School

The Dogs’ Refuge Home Puppy School is ready for new pupils!

Book now as spaces are limited! Our first class commences Saturday 12th June 2021

Puppies have a critical socialisation period between 8-16 weeks of age, where their experiences during this critical period of learning and development can influence and shape their behaviour well into adulthood. Our puppy classes will enable you and your puppy to receive the training, guidance and support needed to provide the best opportunity for a successful future together. This is all provided in a controlled, safe, and sterile environment.

During the 5-week course, you and your puppy will learn basic obedience skills (sit, down, recall), how to address common puppy problems (chewing, toileting, nipping), socialisation and exposure, communication systems, confidence building skills, boundaries and structure, health care requirements + MORE.

Choosing to invest in your puppy and being proactive in your dog’s early training is one the best decision you can make in their lifetime. A lack of training and socialisation can potentially cause fear-based reactivity in your dog, and in some dogs this fear can lead to aggression and other behavioural issues. Our trainers have been working with dogs of all shapes and sizes, from all different backgrounds and behavioural levels for many years. They also hold nationally recognised dog training qualifications. So, you can be sure when joining our class, that you and your pup are in fantastic hands.

All proceeds from the classes go directly back to helping Western Australia’s Dogs’ in need!

Before you book, please read and take onboard the below:

Vaccinations and health:

Your puppy must have had it’s first vaccination (C3) 7 days before you attend your first class. If your puppy is unwell and showing symptoms such as lethargy, diarrhea or vomiting- please phone ahead and do not attend the class.

Doing your homework:

Each week our trainers will provide students and their human owners with recommended activities to be completed at home with your dog. Practice makes perfect, and repeating training techniques and commands at home will help to instil this in your dog.  Preparation prior to class will assist the trainers in being able to understand what level your pup is at.

Pups from the same litter:

Siblings from the same litter are already familiar with each other, and interactions between them will not aid in your pups socialisation development.  If a sibling puppy from your dog’s litter has already enrolled in our class, we may need to be reschedule with you. Our team will be in touch in this instance.

Payment:

The cost of the course is $150.00 for 5 weeks. Payment is requested upfront upon booking your slot. Cancellations with less than 14 days notice will be subject to a $50 cancellation fee. Cancellations with less than 7 days notice will not be refunded as it will not leave us with adequate time to fill the space in the class.
