Cleo is a beautiful 8-year-old Rottweiler lady looking for a calm and understanding home where she can enjoy life at her own pace. She is a shy, independent soul who can be quite aloof initially and isn’t looking to rush into friendships – but give her time, space and gentle encouragement and you’ll have the opportunity to watch her confidence gradually blossom.

Cleo will thrive with patient people who understand that building a relationship with a shy dog is about allowing them to make choices and come to you when they’re ready. She isn’t a lady who wants lots of fuss or attention straight away, and she’ll appreciate humans who can read her signals and respect when she’d rather have some space.

Quiet sniffy walks, peaceful surroundings, gentle enrichment and a comfortable spot to relax will be much more Cleo’s style than busy parks or highly social environments. She is currently sharing with her old friend Drake, though the pair appear comfortable rather than overly dependent on one another and are suitable to find separate homes where their individual needs can take priority.

Cleo would love experienced, gentle humans who can give her the time she needs to come out of her shell. With patience, kindness and no pressure, this lovely older lady can settle into retirement knowing she is safe, understood and able to simply be herself.

How our Adoption Process Works

Step 1) Preparation

Read our Adoption Philosophy and make sure your views on dog ownership align with ours. Please read this entire page to make sure you are ready for adoption day.

Step 2) APPLY

Browse available dogs online, review our dog sociability matrix and then complete an adoption questionnaire.

Step 3) ADOPTION

7 DAYS A WEEK: Walk ins welcome for adoption interviews between 11am-3pm! Our gates remain open until 4pm, but we conclude our adoption interviews at 3pm so we have time to take the dogs out, feed them and get them ready for bedtime.

During quieter periods, we will also do our best to review online applications, but unfortunately cannot get back to every applicant, especially for more ‘popular’ dogs. If you agree with our adoption philosophies and are ready to adopt- please do not wait for us to contact you after submitting a questionnaire.

PUPPIES & DOGS IN FOSTER CARE: If you are particularly interested in a young puppy or a dog that is currently in foster care, please indicate this on your questionnaire. Young puppies will not be on site here at the Refuge as it is much more beneficial for them to remain in foster care until their adoption. For dogs and puppies that are not on site, we will review online applications and get in touch with suitable homes to arrange a meet and greet.

Our dogs are ready to meet you!
