Gnarly is a lovely 4-year-old Kelpie looking for an active family to share her next adventure with. Surrendered through no fault of her own, she comes with very positive feedback from her previous home and has shown herself to be a sweet and engaging girl.

True to her Kelpie heritage, Gnarly will thrive with a family who enjoys getting out and about and can provide plenty of exercise, enrichment and opportunities to learn. Long sniffy hikes, training games, interactive toys and adventures with her people are likely to be right up her alley!

Gnarly loves a game of fetch, although her family will need to balance ball games with plenty of other activities so that her enthusiasm for the ball doesn’t become an obsession.

She has demonstrated some lovely polite behaviours around a calm canine friend and may potentially enjoy living with a well-matched male dog, pending successful meets.

Gnarly has previously lived comfortably as an indoor dog, is reportedly toilet trained and has coped well with time alone. Like all dogs entering a new home, she will need a good decompression period and a gradual introduction to her new family’s routines.

With an active home, positive guidance and plenty of opportunities to use that clever Kelpie brain, Gnarly is sure to be a wonderful addition to her lucky new family.

How our Adoption Process Works

Step 1) Preparation

Read our Adoption Philosophy and make sure your views on dog ownership align with ours. Please read this entire page to make sure you are ready for adoption day.

Step 2) APPLY

Browse available dogs online, review our dog sociability matrix and then complete an adoption questionnaire.

Step 3) ADOPTION

7 DAYS A WEEK: Walk ins welcome for adoption interviews between 11am-3pm! Our gates remain open until 4pm, but we conclude our adoption interviews at 3pm so we have time to take the dogs out, feed them and get them ready for bedtime.

During quieter periods, we will also do our best to review online applications, but unfortunately cannot get back to every applicant, especially for more ‘popular’ dogs. If you agree with our adoption philosophies and are ready to adopt- please do not wait for us to contact you after submitting a questionnaire.

PUPPIES & DOGS IN FOSTER CARE: If you are particularly interested in a young puppy or a dog that is currently in foster care, please indicate this on your questionnaire. Young puppies will not be on site here at the Refuge as it is much more beneficial for them to remain in foster care until their adoption. For dogs and puppies that are not on site, we will review online applications and get in touch with suitable homes to arrange a meet and greet.

Our dogs are ready to meet you!
